Western Carolina takes down Furman 83-75
CULLOWHEE, N.C. -- Trey Sumler scored 24 points, on 10-of-23 shooting, as Western Carolina beat Furman 83-75 on Monday.
Brandon Boggs had 15, while James Sinclair and Tawaski King added 13 apiece for Western Carolina (14-11, 7-3 Southern Conference). Sinclair grabbed 10 rebounds and had six assists for the Catamounts.
Sumler moved into third place on Western Carolina's career scoring list, passing Kevin Martin -- a member of the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Furman (7-17, 1-10) was led by Stephen Croone with 27 points, 12 from the free throw line. Adonis Rwabigwi added a career-high 17 points, eight rebounds and four blocks for the Paladins.
Furman built an 11-point lead in the second half, but Croone's free throw cut its deficit to 73-71 with 2:17 left.
Sinclair answered with a three-point play and Western Carolina hit 7 of 8 free throws in the final 43 seconds to secure the win.
