Georgia Southern edges North Carolina A&T 66-63
GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Jelanie Hewitt scored 19 of his 23 points in the second half, including Georgia Southern's last six points, and the Eagles edged North Carolina A&T 66-63 on Saturday.
A free throw by Angel Matias put Georgia Southern (7-7) up 35-34 with 16:04 left. Hewitt then scored the Eagles' next 10 points and Curtis Diamond added two free throws for a 47-42 lead at 11:53.
The Aggies stayed close with Brian Akinkugbe's three-point play getting them within one, 64-63, with 25 seconds left. But Hewitt made two free throws and the Aggies missed a pair of 3-point shots to end the game.
Hewitt hit all 10 of his free throws and half of his six 3-point attempts while also grabbing nine rebounds. Tre' Bussey added 15 points.
Lamont Middleton scored 25 points and Brian Beckford and Jeremy Underwood 11 apiece for North Carolina A&T (3-10), which lost its fifth consecutive game.
