Furman beats Sewanee 66-49
GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Larry Wideman scored 25 points and hit three 3-pointers to lead Furman past Sewanee 66-49 in the season opener for both teams Friday night.
The Paladins overcame a 7-for-27 shooting performance in the first half, hitting 46.4 percent of their shots in the second half.
Wideman scored 12 points and hit a trio of 3-pointers to fuel a 23-6 run for Furman to open the second half, extending the lead to 48-27 after leading by four at half.
Sewanee, which shot 32 percent from the field, cut the deficit to 12 with just under two minutes remaining, but couldn't pull closer.
Jorden Williams led Sewanee with 17 points and was 5-for-8 on 3-pointers. Keshonn Carter added 12 points and eight rebounds for the Tigers.
Stephen Croone had 10 points for Furman and Keith Belfield added nine.
