ORANGEBURG, S.C. -- Jervon Pressley scored 14 points as Hampton beat South Carolina State for the fourth-straight time, 67-56 on Monday.
Hampton (10-10, 5-2 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) used a 16-0 second-half run -- with seven points from Ramon Mercado- to pull away.
Mercado finished with 12 points, Du'Vaughn Maxwell had 11 and Ke'Ron Brown 10 for Hampton. Maxwell recorded five blocks and Deron Powers had eight assists for the Pirates.
South Carolina State (7-13, 3-4) was led by Matthew Hezekiah with 13 points. Koran Wright had 12 points and Adama Adams added 10 for the Bulldogs.
Hampton made just 23 of 57 shots, including 3 of 12 from behind the arc, but went to the free throw line 28 times, compared to 11 for SC State.
South Carolina State made 10 of 23 3-pointers but turned the ball over 20 times.
