Norfolk State beats Bethune-Cookman 59-45
NORFOLK, Va. -- Riley Maye scored 15 points, leading four Norfolk State players in double figures, as the Spartans pulled away in the second half to defeat Bethune-Cookman 59-45 on Saturday night.
Tied with 17 minutes left in the game, the Spartans went on a 14-3 run to go up 44-33 with 10:49 left. The lead reached 17 points with under 2 minutes to go.
Pendarvis Williams scored 11 points for the Spartans (7-3, 2-0 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference). Brandon Goode and Malcolm Hawkins added 10 apiece.
The victory extends the Spartans' home winning streak to 16. They also own the longest current conference winning streak in Division I at 21.
Malik Jackson led the Wildcats (2-9, 0-1) with 16 points while Mikel Trapp added 12.
The Wildcats lost their seventh straight game, all during a 12-game road trip (counting a neutral court contest), and won't play at home again until Jan. 11.
