Detroit tops Youngstown State in OT 83-81
DETROIT -- Juwan Howard, Jr. scored 24 points, including 6 in overtime, to lead Detroit over Youngstown State 83-81 on Sunday.
Howard's jumper with 18 second left in overtime gave Detroit a 2-point lead. Youngstown's Kendrick Perry converted just 1 of 2 free throws to cut the lead to 82-81 with 8 seconds left, but Patrick Onwenu made 1 of 2 for Detroit. YSU missed its last two shots as time ran out.
Detroit (12-14, 5-6 Horizon) closed the first half with an 11-4 run, including treys by Howard and Carlton Brundidge, to take a 40-30 lead at the intermission.
The Titans led by eight with 10:32 left after a pair of Matthew Grant treys, but the Penguins closed regulation on a 14-6 run as Shawn Amiker's 3-pointer with 10 seconds left forced overtime.
Amiker led Youngstown State (13-12, 4-6) with 25 points, while Perry added 22.
