Vermont defeats UMBC 76-52
BURLINGTON, Vt. -- Clancy Rugg scored 19 points and Ethan O'Day 12 points and 10 rebounds as America East leader Vermont defeated Maryland-Baltimore County 76-52 on Saturday.
The Catamounts (17-9, 11-1) also got 10 points from Sandro Carissimo. Vermont shot 49.2 percent, scoring 21 points off 21 turnovers by the Retrievers (9-17, 5-8). The Catamounts also scored 15 second-chance points with the help of 12 offensive rebounds. They held a 31-24 advantage on the boards.
No UMBC player scored in double figures with Rodney Elliott finishing with nine points. David Kadiri grabbed 11 rebounds. The Retrievers shot 32.7 percent and only hit 4 of 22 3-point attempts for 18.2 percent.
Vermont led the entire way and was up 37-21 at halftime. The Catamounts lead twice reached 30 points in the second half.
The Catamounts made 13 steals in winning their sixth straight game.
