George Washington pushes past Richmond 73-65
RICHMOND, Va. -- Maurice Creek scored 16 points and Kevin Larsen added 11 with 13 rebounds as George Washington defeated Richmond 73-65 Tuesday night.
The Colonials (20-6, 8-4 Atlantic 10) shot 40.4 percent from the field and out-rebounded Richmond 45-33. Joe McDonald scored 14 points, and Isaiah Armwood chipped in 14 with nine boards.
Richmond (17-9, 7-4) shot 44.8 percent, but went 7 of 20 on 3-pointers and 6 of 14 from the foul line. ShawnDre' Jones led the Spiders with 25 points on 10-of-14 shooting. Terry Allen had 16 points with nine boards and Kendall Anthony had 14 points.
McDonald broke a 60-all tie with a layup and a jumper, but Jones responded with a 3-pointer. Creek then drilled a jumper to make it 66-63 with 2:26 remaining. After a string of misses on both ends, the Colonials sank 7 of their last 8 free throws to ice the game.
