Albany (NY) defeats Stony Brook 77-67
GUILDERLAND, N.Y. -- Sam Rowley scored 17 points and grabbed 11 boards as Albany (NY) handed Stony Brook its first conference loss with a 77-67 victory Wednesday night.
Gary Johnson had 19 points and two assists for the Great Danes (11-10, 5-3 American East Conference). Peter Hooley and DJ Evans chipped in with 11 each.
Stony Brook went 16-9 early in the first half but Albany came back, taking the lead on a Hooley 3 with 8:36 remaining before the half and extended it to lead 38-33 at the break. In the second, the Great Danes built a double-digit lead on the free throw accuracy of Hooley and Johnson who were each 8 of 10 during the game. The Great Danes were 26 of 32 (81.3 percent) from the line overall.
The Seawolves (15-7, 7-1) committed 24 personal fouls during the game.
Jameel Warney led Stony Brook with 21 points and six rebounds.
