Stony Brook cruises past winless Cornell 76-54
STONY BROOK, N.Y. -- Jameel Warney scored 14 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead Stony Brook to a 76-54 win over Cornell on Sunday.
Dave Coley contributed 15 points, Carson Puriefoy added 13 and Ahmad Walker had 12 for the Seawolves (9-4), who shot 41 percent from the field and outrebounded Cornell 47-32 to match their best season start since becoming a Division I program.
Stony Brook opened the game with a 15-3 blast to build a lead it would never surrender and closed out the half with a 21-8 run to take a 38-24 advantage into the break. The Seawolves continued to pull away from the winless Big Red throughout the second half.
Cornell (0-11) caught up with the Seawolves midway through the first on a Nolan Cressler layup to trail by a point, 17-16, but couldn't keep the pace.
Devin Cherry and Darryl Smith led Cornell with 11 points apiece.
