Albany needs late comeback to beat NJIT 71-65
ALBANY, N.Y. -- DJ Evans had 20 points on 8-of-14 shooting with three 3-pointers to lead Albany to a 71-65 victory in its home opener against NJIT on Tuesday night.
Albany (2-0) trailed most of the second half until a 9-point run tied the game at 55 with 4:55 to go. The teams tied at 59 and 62 before Gary Johnson made two free throws with 1:39 left to put Albany ahead for good 64-62.
Peter Hooley added 13 points and Sam Rowley had 12 for the Danes.
NJIT (1-1) trailed 36-35 early in the second half before a pair of Damon Lynn 3s and a Tim Coleman layup gave the Highlanders a 43-36 lead with 5:46 to go.
Terrence Smith was 8 of 13 for 19 points for the Highlanders. Ky Howard added 15 points and Lynn had 14.
