Benimon, Damas carry Towson past Drexel 80-68
PHILADELPHIA -- Jerrelle Benimon had 27 points, 13 rebounds and seven assists, while Marcus Damas added 26 points in Towson's 80-68 victory over Drexel Tuesday night.
The Tigers (11-6, 2-0 Colonial Athletic Association) shot 55.3 percent from the field, with Benimon going 10 of 14 and Damas 8 for 10. Damas hit four 3-pointers and Benimon added two.
Drexel (9-7, 1-2) was 23 of 72 (31.9 percent) on field goal attempts. Chris Fouch had 28 points on 8-of-27 shooting and Frantz Massenat was 8-of-19 with 21 points.
Towson ended the first half on an 8-1 run as Damas hit two 3-pointers and Rafriel Guthrie capped it with a dunk to grab a 38-29 halftime advantage. They pushed that lead to double digits in the second half and Drexel could only pull within nine. The Tigers countered with an 8-2 surge to grab their largest lead of 15 with 6:42 remaining.
