Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks @ Lamar Cardinals
SF Austin wins 20 straight, beating Lamar 78-69
BEAUMONT, Texas -- Desmond Haymon scored 30 points and Thomas Walkup notched 19 while grabbing 11 rebounds as Stephen F Austin won its 20th straight game, beating Lamar 78-69 on Thursday night, staying perfect in the Southland Conference.
Stephen F Austin (23-2, 12-0) shot 66 percent from the field outpacing Lamar's respectable 52 percent, which is exactly what the Lumberjacks needed to hold off the upset-minded Cardinals.
Lamar's Nimrod Hilliard hit two 3's and two free throws in the final 46 seconds but it was not enough to outpace the Lumberjacks who went 7 of 8 from the line in the same span in solidifying their lock atop the conference.
Lamar's (3-21, 2-10) only lead in the game was 22-21 when Donovan Ross got inside for two points. The Cardinals trailed SF Austin 37-33 at the break.
Hilliard, Amos Wilson and Donovan Ross scored 16 each for Lamar.
