New Orleans defeats Texas A&M-Corpus Christi 70-62
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas -- Christavious Gill scored a career-high 19 points to lead New Orleans to a 70-62 victory over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Saturday night.
New Orleans (7-9, 4-4 Southland Conference) held a 26-22 halftime advantage. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (9-12, 6-2) closed the gap to 28-26 following a jump shot by Johnathan Jordan, who led A&M-Corpus Christi with 20 points. The Privateers responded with a 10-3 run for a 38-29 lead with 12:32 remaining.
The Islanders closed to 63-57 with 45 seconds left following a dunk by Jordan and tip-in by Joy Williamson, who had 11 points.
Tradarrius McPhearson made a layup, Gill made three free throws and Nate Frye added two more in the closing seconds to seal the victory.
McPhearson had 14 points and Cory Dixon added 12 and had 16 rebounds for New Orleans. New Orleans won the rebound battle, pulling down 41 to 36 for the Islanders.
