LAKE CHARLES, La. -- Zane Knowles scored 16 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead Texas A&M-Corpus Christi to a 77-61 victory over McNeese State on Thursday night.
The Islanders (7-11, 4-1 Southland), who opened the conference season with three victories before losing to Stephen F. Austin on Saturday, rebounded behind a balanced scoring effort that included 12 points from John Jordan and 10 from Joy Williamson.
The Islanders hit 29 of 56 shots for 51.8 percent, including 18 of 28 in the first half for 64.3 percent when they built a 23-point lead. They also enjoyed a 37-25 advantage on the boards and outscored the Cowboys 42-24 in the paint.
The Cowboys (5-12, 3-2), who never threatened in the second half after getting off to staggering start on 25.9 percent shooting in the first half, had only Desharick Guidry in double figures with 11 points.
