Jacksonville St. turns back UT-Martin 70-65
JACKSONVILLE, Ala. -- Darion Rackley scored 16 of his 22 points in the second half as Jacksonville State rallied to win an Ohio Valley Conference opener against UT-Martin 70-65 Monday night.
The Gamecocks (7-9) hit all 10 of their free throws in the second half in a game that had three technical fouls in the closing minutes. The last one, at the 3:48 mark, allowed Avery Moore and Rackley to make two free throws apiece to put Jacksonville State up 61-58.
After the Skyhawks (5-11) pulled within one as Marshun Newell made two of four free throws, Brian Williams hit a clutch 3-pointer at 1:03. A Terence Smith 3 with nine seconds left again made it a one-point game but Undra Mitchem made two foul shots and Brian Williams had a steal and a dunk at the buzzer.
The Gamecocks were 21-29 from the line.
Newell had 21 off the bench for UT-Martin.
