UCSB's last second layup beats Long Beach 65-64
LONG BEACH, Calif. -- Michael Bryson's layup with 1 second left lifted UC Santa Barbara over Long Beach State 65-64 on Thursday.
Two free throws by Long Beach's Mike Caffey with 16 seconds left gave the 49ers a 64-63 lead, but Bryson put back a missed jumper by Alan Williams with 1 second left to lift the Gauchos (16-6, 7-2 Big West) to victory.
UCSB led by as much as 13 in the second, but Long Beach (10-14, 6-4) whittled the lead, using a 10-2 run sparked by a 3-pointer by Branford Jones, to tie the game at 60 with 4:35 left on another Jones trey.
The teams were tied at 30, but UCSB's Kyle Boswell drilled a trey, starting a 7-0 run and the Gauchos led 37-30 at intermission.
Williams led UCSB with 16 points and eight boards. Bryson finished with 15 and eight.
Tyler Lamb led Long Beach State with 13 points.
