RIVERSIDE, Calif. -- Tyler Lamb scored 23 points with three assists and four steals as Long Beach State defeated UC Riverside 88-76 on Saturday night.
A.J. Spencer added 17 points and five assists for the 49ers (10-13, 6-3 Big West). Travis Hammonds came off the bench to score 13 points and grab six rebounds.
Long Beach State went 19-8 to start and led 58-48 at the break. The Highlanders kept it close in the second until midway when Lamb and Hammonds combined for a pair of 3-pointers within a minute to give the 49ers a 77-66 lead with 5:47 left.
The 49ers were strong all over the court during the contest, hitting 48.5 percent from the field, 75 percent from the line and 50 percent from 3-point range.
Taylor Johns led the Highlanders (8-15, 3-6) with 20 points and 11 rebounds.
