UC Riverside comeback tops Cal Poly, 61-58
RIVERSIDE, Calif. -- Steven Jones had back-to-back layups in the final minute to give California Riverside a come-from-behind 61-58 win over Cal Poly Saturday night.
Ridge Shipley's layup with 3:29 left gave the Mustangs a seven-point lead, 58-51, but UC Riverside did not score a point the rest of the way.
Jones' layup with 57 seconds left cut the Cal Poly lead to one, 58-57, and he followed it with another with 25 left to give the Highlanders the lead. Sam Finley added two free throws with a second left for the final score.
Chris Patton had 17 points to UC Riverside (7-13, 2-4 Big West), with Jones adding 11 points and 10 rebounds. Finley contributed 10 points.
Cal Poly (8-11, 4-2) got 17 points from Dave Nwaba. Chris Eversley added 13 points with eight rebounds and Maliik Love contributed 10 points.
