UC Davis stomps Holy Names 80-54
DAVIS, Calif. -- Ryan Sypkens came off the UC Davis bench to score 25 points in an 80-54 win over Holy Names on Monday.
Sypkens, playing for an injured Corey Hawkins, drilled seven 3-pointers on 10 attempts, falling one basket shy of tying a school record for 3-point field goals in a single game. Joining him in double-digit scoring for the Aggies (1-1) was Josh Ritchart, with 16 points and seven rebounds, and Brynton Lemar, with 11 points.
Holy Names held on to a narrow lead for much of the first half but UC Davis began pulling away on back-to-back 3-pointers from Sypkens with 3 minutes remaining, heading into the locker room with a 32-27 advantage. The Aggies put the game away with a 16-0 run in the second half, finishing with 61 percent shooting from the field.
Tyler Fry led the Hawks with 27 points and five steals.
