Fairfield snaps losing string, tops Monmouth 60-56
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. -- Maurice Barrow gave Fairfield the lead by hitting a jumper with 1:40 left, then padded the lead with a pair of free throws as the Stags held off visiting Monmouth, 60-56 Friday night.
The win was just the second conference win for Fairfield, which snapped a five-game losing streak overall and a four-game conference losing streak.
Tyrone O'Garro gave the Hawks the lead, 54-53 with 3:13 left to play, but Monmouth's only points the rest of the way came from two Max DiLeo free throws with four seconds left.
Marcus Gilbert and K.J. Rose each scored 15 points to lead Fairfield (5-19, 2-11 Metro Atlantic), with Barrow contributing another 11 points and Amadou Sidibe pulling down 10 rebounds. The Stags were 21 of 53 from the field (39.6 percent).
Andrew Nicholas scored 16 points to lead Monmouth (10-14, 4-9). O'Garro pulled down 11 rebounds.
