Canisius cruises past Fairfield 84-58
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. -- Billy Baron scored 17 points as Canisius cruised to an easy win over Fairfield 84-58 on Saturday.
Fairfield (4-18, 1-10 Metro Atlantic) jumped out to a 7-0 lead, highlighted by Justin Jenkins' 3-pointer, as Canisius turned the ball over twice in the first 1:24. The Golden Griffins recovered though, as they tied the game at nine then used a 9-2 run later in the half to lead 33-29 at the intermission.
Canisius (16-7, 10-2) opened the second half with a 13-2 run, as Fairfield made just 1 of 8 coming out of the break, and cruised to the big win.
Canisius forced 19 Fairfield turnovers and committed just eight. Dominique Raney had 15 points, Chris Manhertz scored 14 points and gathered 10 rebounds and Zach Lewis added 11.
Marcus Gilbert led Fairfield with 14 points as the Stags shot just 33 percent, including 9 of 37 from beyond the arc.
