Marist outlasts Monmouth 75-73
POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- Chavaughn Lewis scored 24 points and made two clutch free throws in the final seconds as Marist held on to win 75-73 over a surging Monmouth team on Thursday night.
Marist (7-14, 4-7 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference) led at halftime 43-34 after T.J. Curry landed a 3 just before the break to take a 9-point lead into intermission.
Monmouth (10-12, 4-7) climbed back in to the game, and a Max DiLeo steal leading to a Tyrone O'Garro layup got the Hawks to within one point of Marist, 70-69, with 30 seconds remaining.
The teams exchanged a pair of free throws before Lewis secured the win for Marist, making two more from the line to lead 74-71 with 6 seconds left.
Deon Jones scored 14 points and Andrew Nicholas and DiLeo had 10 each for Monmouth. Khallid Hart added 17 points for Marist.
