Canisius downs Quinnipiac 86-74
HAMDEN, Conn. -- Billy Baron scored 20 points Thursday and Zach Lewis added 17 as Canisius dominated Qunnipiac 86-74 to win its third straight game.
Jordan Heath opened with a 3-pointer and Canisius (15-7, 9-2 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference) jumped to an 18-6 lead, and then ripped an 11-2 run to lead 29-11. Evan Conti's layup with 56 seconds to play cut the lead to nine, and Quinnipiac trailed 41-32 at halftime. Canisius shot 53.3 percent in the half to just 29.7 percent for Quinnipiac.
Quinnipiac (12-8, 7-4) scored in short bursts to close the gap to seven early in the second half, but Canisius replied with a 7-1 run for a 68-54 lead at 5:42, then held Quinnipiac at arm's length down the stretch.
Chris Perez scored 15 for Canisius and Heath grabbed 10 rebounds.
Zaid Hearst led Quinnipiac with 33 points, Evan Conti scored 11 and Ike Azotam had 10.
