Niagara Purple Eagles @ Fairfield Stags
Niagara edges Fairfield 67-63
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. -- Ramone Snowden scored 18 points, including the go-ahead bucket with 26 seconds left, as Niagara slipped past Fairfield in a 67-63 win on Thursday night.
Niagara (5-13, 2-5 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference) trailed much of the game but kept the score close and used a 6-0 spurt midway through the second half to build a five-point margin that Fairfield erased down the stretch. Tied at 63 with under a minute to play, Snowden tipped in an Antoine Mason miss to give the Purple Eagles the lead. Rayvon Harris then sank a pair of free throws to put the game out of reach.
Mason, the NCAA's leading scorer with an average 28.3 ppg, was held to just 15 points for Niagara, which still shot 50 percent from the field and was 7 of 12 from 3-point range.
Maurice Barrow led Fairfield (3-14, 0-7) with 17 points, while Marcus Gilbert added 15.
