Burton scores 20 to lift Nevada past Iona 80-72
RENO, Nev. -- Deonte Burton scored 20 points and had six assists to help Nevada hang on to defeat Iona 80-72 Sunday.
Nevada (5-7) snapped a two-game losing skid and handed Iona (5-5) its third-straight loss. Burton has scored 19 points or more in every game this season.
Burton scored 13 points in the second half, and his jumper stretched the Nevada lead to 78-70 with 1:35 remaining. Iona answered with a Tre Bowman dunk, but the Gaels missed their final six shots in the final minute.
A.J. English hit a 3-pointer to give Iona its last lead, 51-50 with 15:47 to play. Cole Huff answered with a jumper, and Nevada led the rest of the way. Huff scored 13 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Jerry Evans, Jr. scored 18 points, and Michael Perez added 14 for the Wolf Pack.
English scored 22 points with six 3-pointers to lead Iona.
