Quinnipiac beats Hampton 71-68
HAMDEN, Conn. -- Zaid Hearst scored a game-high 22 points to lead Quinnipiac to a 71-68 victory over Hampton Wednesday night.
Hearst was 9 of 16 from the field and hit 4 of 6 from the 3-point line. He also led the Bobcats (3-1) in rebounds with 14 and had two steals. Ousmane Drame had 13 points and 8 rebounds and sank 7 of 10 free throws. Ike Azotam had 12 points and 13 rebounds.
The Pirates (2-2) led by as many as 12 points in the first half and held onto a 38-32 lead at the break. The Bobcats started the second half slowly until Hearst hit a 3-point jumper at the 15:23 mark, sparking a rally to close the gap. They recaptured the lead on an Azotam layup with less than two minutes to play.
Du'Vaughn Maxwell scored 14 points for the Pirates with five rebounds and four steals.
