Maxwell rallies Hampton over St. Peter's 64-59
JERSEY CITY, N.J. -- Du'Vaughn Maxwell scored 20 points as Hampton rallied in the second half to defeat St. Peter's 64-59 Tuesday night.
Down seven at halftime after shooting 37 percent, the Pirates (2-0) found their range to claw back into the game. They shot 44 percent in the second half.
Lawrence Cooks added 12 points off the bench for Hampton, hitting all three of his three-pointers plus two clinching free throws with seven seconds left.
St. Peter's (2-0) got 13 points from Chris Burke, who made 6 of 7 shots, and 12 from Dominique Marvin, who only made 4 of 11. The Peacocks shot just 35 percent in the second half.
Maxwell also led the team with six rebounds and five blocks. It was his dunk with 6:19 left that finally allowed the Pirates to tie the Peacocks at 52 and his layup a minute later put Hampton up for good.
