UT Arlington beats Houston Baptist 80-70
HOUSTON -- Brandon Edwards scored a season-high 31 points as UT Arlington shined in the second half, beating Houston Baptist 80-70 on Saturday night.
Besides Edwards, Lonnie McClanahan posted 22 points and Reger Dowell-the No. 10 leading scorer in Division I at 22.7 per game-adding 18 points for UTA.
Houston Baptist (3-7) led by three at the half (33-30), but shot a dismal 12 percent (1 for 8) from the three-point line, allowing UT-Arlington(4-6) to stay close. HBU dominated the rebound battle in the first, but lost the turnover count 11-5.
The Mavericks closed the gap in the second half and tied it at 46 on an Edwards' jumper. The lead repeatedly changed hands until UTA went on top for good, leading 60-58. Edwards secured the win, scoring 7 points in the final 2:30 minutes to bring it home for the Mavericks.
The Huskies were led by Tyler Russell with 22 points.
