Louisiana-Monroe rolls over Samford 86-52
MONROE, La. -- Amos Olatayo tossed in 22 points, 16 in the first half, to spark Louisiana-Monroe to an 86-52 win over Samford Monday night.
Olatoyo shot 10 of 13 from the field, hitting 2 of 4 from 3-point range to lead the Warhawks (1-1), who got their first win in decisive fashion at home.
Tylor Ongwae and Jayon James both added 14 points. Daniel Grieves contributed 13 off the bench for UL-Monroe. James also pulled down a game-high nine boards.
Tim Williams led Samford (1-3) with 14 points and Tyler Hood added another 12 points. The Bulldogs took an early lead.
The Warhawks shot 50 percent from the field (34-for-67) despite missing their first three shots of the game and falling behind. By intermission they had a 44-27 lead and out-scored Samford by the same margin in the second half.
