Utah Valley outplays Grand Canyon winning 65-58
OREM, Utah -- Ben Aird scored 21 points while grabbing 15 rebounds as Utah Valley reversed a poor first half, beating Grand Canyon 65-58 on Saturday night.
Grand Canyon (7-10, 2-2 Western Athletic Conference) led by five points at halftime, 30-25, credited primarily to the Antelopes hitting 6 of 8 from the free throw line while Utah Valley was 0 for 3.
Utah Valley (8-7, 2-0) found its zone in the second period and regained the lead 43-40 when Hunsaker nailed a trey eight minutes in.
Hunsaker added another 3 with just over four minutes left to put the Wolverines up by 10 points. The Antelopes responded by resorting to a foul strategy. That plan failed and Utah Valley remains tied atop the WAC conference.
The Wolverines hit only 40 percent from the field but the Antelopes fared worse, shooting only 33 percent.
Jerome Garrison led Grand Canyon scorers with 18 points.
