Loyola Marymount survives Grand Canyon 78-75
SAN DIEGO -- Anthony Ireland's strong finish powered Loyola Marymount to the 78-75 win over Grand Canyon Friday night.
Ireland, who re-entered the game with 4 minutes to play after sitting due to foul trouble, scored six points and had one assist as the Toreros (1-0) outlasted the Antelopes (0-1) down the stretch. Ireland's assist came when he found Chase Flint for a 3-pointer that gave LMU the 75-73 with 1:03 left to play.
Grand Canyon turned the ball over twice during the final minute as LMU held on for the win.
Ireland led the team with 14 points, going 4 of 12 for the field and 6 of 7 from the line. Gabe Levin led the team with 9 rebounds and scored 11 points, including two critical late free throws.
Center Killian Larson paced Grand Canyon with 18 points and 9 rebounds. Demetrius Walter added 17 points.
