American U puts away Holy Cross 67-52
WORCESTER, Mass. -- Jesse Reed scored 14 points and John Schoof added 13 as American University defeated Holy Cross 67-52 Sunday.
The Eagles (6-7, 2-0 Patriot League) had all five starters score in double figures. Kyle Kager had 12 points while Tony Wroblicky and Darius Gardner each chipped in 10. American shot 51 percent from the field and made all 11 of its free throws.
American jumped out to an early 17-6 as Schoof hit two 3-pointers, but Holy Cross climbed back to make it a six-point game at halftime.
Holy Cross (6-8, 0-2) pulled within four as Cullen Hamilton hit a layup to open the second half. The Eagles countered with a quick 6-0 surge to increase their lead back to double digits. Another Schoof 3-pointer ignited a 9-0 run, giving American its largest lead, 61-44 with 4:08 remaining.
Dave Dudzinski paced the Crusaders with 13 points and six boards.
