Lehigh holds on to beat Colgate 88-81 in 2nd OT
HAMILTON, N.Y. -- Tim Kempton scored a career-high 25 points and finished with 13 rebounds as Lehigh held on to defeat Colgate 88-81 in double overtime to open Patriot League play on Thursday night.
Mackey McKnight made 7 of 8 free throws in the final 45 seconds and Lehigh (8-6, 1-0) won its first overtime game of the season. The Raiders led briefly by two points to start the second overtime, but missed six shots and turned the ball over twice in the final five minutes.
Ethan Jacobs made a layup for the Raiders with 27 seconds left in the first overtime to tie the game.
In the final 3 minutes of regulation there were two lead changes and three ties. McKnight made a 3-pointer with 27 seconds remaining to push the game past regulation.
Murphy Burnatowski scored 26 points and made four 3-pointers for Colgate (6-6, 0-1).
