Lehigh holds off Texas Southern's rally 67-63
BROOKINGS, S.D. -- Tim Kempton had 20 points and eight rebounds and Corey Schaefer scored a career-high 16 to lead Lehigh over Texas Southern on Monday night, a 67-63 win in the Legends Classic at South Dakota State.
Lehigh (2-4) started the game on a 6-0 run and never trailed. Kempton scored eight of the Mountain Hawks' first 19 points and Lehigh held Texas Southern to just 17 first-half points.
Schaefer's jumper with 3:38 remaining was Lehigh's last field goal of the game. It gave the Mountain Hawks a 54-51 lead and Lehigh made 13 of 16 free throws from there.
Aaric Murray scored 28 with nine rebounds for Texas Southern (2-5). Murray was 7 of 11 from the field after the intermission and scored 22 of his 28 points to lead the Tigers' second half charge. His dunk with 3:58 remaining cut the gap to 52-51.
