UTEP propels past Middle Tennessee 63-54
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. -- Vince Hunter scored 20 points and UTEP pulled away from Middle Tennessee in the second half winning 63-54 on Thursday night.
Jon Bohannon grabbed 11 rebounds and 8 points for UTEP.
Middle Tennessee (11-6, 1-1 Conference USA) kept UTEP (12-6, 2-1) at bay leading 29-27 going into the half as both teams fought to maintain recent winning streaks.
UTEP scored only 13 points over the first 10 minutes of the second half, but Middle Tennessee fared even worse, scoring just 8 points, squandering the halftime lead and trailing 40-37 on Julian Washburn's 3-pointer for the Miners.
The Blue Raiders never threatened UTEP again and trailed by as many as 16 points with one minute remaining.
Middle Tennessee shot only 32 percent while the Miners improved to 46 percent shooting with a stronger second half effort.
Neiko Hunter scored 13 points and had 8 rebounds for Middle Tennessee.
