Obi leads Rice past Texas A&M-CC 63-60
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas -- Sean Obi scored the tie-breaking basket and finished with 16 points to lead Rice to a 63-60 win over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Wednesday night.
After his clutch basket with 2:14 to play, Obi rebounded an A&M-CC miss that led to a 3-pointer for Austin Ramljak at the 1:35 mark. Though the Islanders (3-3) kept the pressure on, Max Guercy and Marcus Jackson each hit two free throws in the final minute to secure the win for the Owls (2-2).
Rice led by as many as 11 points in the second half before A&M-CC rallied.
Ramljak added 14 points for Rice with Guercy getting 11 and Jackson, who hit 8 of 9 free throws, 10. Obi, who made 7 of 9 shots, also had 10 rebounds.
Jeff Beverly had 14 points and John Jordan 13 for the Islanders.
