Marshall routs Rio Grande 119-77
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. -- Elija Pittman had 29 points to lead seven players in double figures as Marshall defeated Rio Grande 119-77 Tuesday night.
Marshall (2-0) led by as much as 28 in the first half on the strength of three dunks and a 3-pointer by Pittman. Pittman, who averaged 16.1 points per game last season, was 11 of 20 while playing just 25 minutes.
Marshall's freshman guard Kareem Canty records his first career double-double with 18 points and a game-high 11 assists. Ryan Taylor made all five of his shots from the field, and was 4 for 5 from the line to go with his 15 points. Chris Thomas came off the bench and was 7 of 10 for 15 points.
Jermaine Warmack had a team-high 17 points for NAIA member Rio Grande (2-1). Sterling Smoak added 10 rebounds for the Red Storm.
