FIU defeats Florida Gulf Coast 72-61
MIAMI -- Tymell Murphy scored 10 of his game-high 23 points during a 16-5 second half run to end the game and give Florida International a 72-61 victory over Florida Gulf Coast Saturday.
Murphy was a perfect 10 of 10 from the line. Rakeem Buckles scored 11 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to lead FIU (8-4). Buckles earned his sixth double-double and the ninth of his career. Dennis Mavin also scored in double figures for the Golden Panthers, shooting 7 of 15 from the floor on his way to 19 points.
Brett Comer and Chase Fieler each scored 14 points, and Bernard Thompson added 10 to lead Florida Gulf Coast (4-4). Jamail Jones added 9 points and a team-high 10 rebounds. After a Nick Hicks layup with 7:45 remaining, the Eagles shot just 2 of 12 from the floor the rest of the game.
