St. Francis (Pa) pushes past LIU Brooklyn 74-58
NEW YORK -- Stephon Whyatt scored 17 points and Malik Harmon had 16 with five assists as St. Francis (Pa.) defeated LIU Brooklyn 74-58 Saturday.
The Red Flash (7-16, 5-5 Northeast Conference) shot 50 percent from the field. Whyatt hit four of SFU's 10 3-pointers, while Earl Brown and Ben Millaud-Meunier each finished with 14 points.
LIU Brooklyn (7-16, 2-8) outrebounded SFU 35-25, but went 3 of 19 from the perimeter. E.J. Reed led the Blackbirds with 20 points and 10 rebounds, and Joel Hernandez added 14 with seven.
Trailing 11-10, SFU pushed ahead as Whyatt hit two 3-pointers to spark a 13-3 run. Another pair from beyond the arc by Whyatt and a 3 by Harmon put the Red Flash up 39-22 late in the first half.
LIU Brooklyn pulled within seven in the second half, but SFU countered with a 10-3 run capped by a Brown dunk with 6:22 remaining.
