Wagner defeats Vermont 68-61
STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Orlando Parker's steal and layup with less than four minutes remaining led Wagner to a victory Thursday night over Vermont 68-61.
Parker's score gave Wagner (3-2) a 57-56 lead with 3:34 remaining. Vermont (1-4) answered with Brian Voelkel making one of two free throws to tie the game at 57. Parker pulled down Voelkel's second shot from the line, yet missed his subsequent layup. Parker grabbed the rebound and was fouled on the putback. He made the first free throw, giving the Seahawks the lead for good.
Parker was 4 of 9 from the floor for 9 points, and had a team-high 7 rebounds. Kenneth Ortiz scored 15 points to lead four Seahawks in double figures.
Voelkel had a game-high 11 rebounds, and Clancy Rugg scored a game-high 18 points to lead Vermont.
