Hofstra coasts, beats Fairleigh Dickinson 80-58
HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. -- Jamall Robinson scored 15 points and Dion Nesmith and Moussa Kone each added 14 as Hofstra cruised to an 80-58 win over Fairleigh Dickinson in a season opener for both teams Sunday.
The Pride, who shot 29-of-55 from the field, jumped out to a 50-27 lead and closed the first half on a 7-0 run. They led by as many as 25 during the second half.
Nesmith hit five of his six field goal attempts, including Hofstra's only two 3-pointers of the game. Kone grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds, giving him a double-double.
Darren Payen was the fourth Hofstra player in double figures, finishing with 12 points on a perfect 6-for-6 shooting.
The Knights held an early 9-8 lead four minutes into the game, but couldn't keep pace with Hofstra, shooting just 30.2 percent. They were led by Sidney Sanders Jr. with 13 points and Scooter Gillette contributed 12.
