Peterson sparks VMI over Liberty 77-70
LYNCHBURG, Va. -- QJ Peterson had 18 points with 12 rebounds and made a key layup to lift Virginia Military Institute to a 77-70 victory over Liberty on Saturday night.
D.J. Covington scored for VMI, tying the game at 68 with 1:59 to play. John-Caleb Sanders missed a layup on Liberty's ensuing possession before Peterson made a layup with 56 seconds left, giving VMI a 70-68 lead. The Keydets then made seven of eight free throws to seal it.
Rodney Glasgow scored 25 points on 8-of-16 shooting to lead VMI (15-10, 8-4 Big South), which has won five of its last six games. Covington finished with 12 points and 12 rebounds for his 13th double-double of the season.
Antwan Burrus was 11 of 19 from the field, scoring 23 points to lead Liberty (9-18, 3-9). Sanders had 11 points and Davon Marshall added 10 for the Flames.
