High Point outlasts Liberty 76-70
LYNCHBURG, Va. -- Adam Weary scored 22 points, including the last four points for High Point, in a 76-70 win over Liberty on Saturday.
After Andrew Smith's basket cut the High Point lead to 70-68 with 44 seconds left, Weary drove to the basket at the other end and finished on a tough layup to extend the lead to 72-68 with 14 seconds remaining.
Liberty (8-11, 2-2 Big South) got two free throws on the other end from John Caleb Sanders to come within 72-70, but Weary iced the game by hitting two free throws with 6 seconds left.
John Brown added 21 points for High Point (6-11, 2-2). Devante Wallace had 16 and Lorenzo Cugini added 12 for the Panthers.
Smith had 17 points to lead the Flames, who trailed by nine in the second half before closing the gap down the stretch. Davon Marshall and Tomasz Gielo added 12 apiece.
