House leads Houston to 80-66 win over Lehigh
HOUSTON -- Danuel House had 22 points and hit 3 of 5 from behind the arc as Houston came from behind for an 80-66 win over Lehigh in a regional round game of the Legends Classic on Sunday.
TaShawn Thomas had 18 points and 13 rebounds and hit 8 of 10 from the floor. He added seven of the Cougars (4-0) 14 blocks.
L.J. Rose scored 18 points and dished out six assists for the Cougars, who shot 50 percent from the floor.
Mackey McKnight led Lehigh (1-3) with 14 points and seven assists, while Austin Price had 12 points and Tim Kempton added 11 points.
Conroy Baltimore 13 rebounds for the Mountain Hawks, who only hit on 7 of 15 from the free throw line.
Lehigh took a 64-63 lead with 4 minutes remaining on a Price dunk, but Houston responded with a 17-2 run to end the game.
Jherrod Stiggers hit a 3-pointer to put the Cougars ahead 66-64 with 3 minutes left, and Rose followed with a 3-pointer of his own with 2:16 to go, pushing the lead to 5. Rose had 9 points in the game-ending run for Houston.
Lehigh got back in the game on a 9-0 run capped by a McKnight layup with 13:20 remaining to tie the game at 48. After Houston pushed the lead up to 4, Lehigh responded with a 9-1 surge to gain a 58-54 lead on a McKnight jumper with 7:41 to go.
Houston answered the Mountain Hawks' run with a 9-1 spurt of its own to take a 63-59 lead with 4:49 left on a Thomas layup.
Houston, which shot 53 percent from the field in the first half, used a 12-4 run over a four-minute stretch of the first half to open up a 29-17 lead with 6 minutes remaining in the opening half. Thomas, who had 10 points in the first half, had four points in the spurt.
The Cougars led 37-28 at the half.
