HARTFORD, Conn. -- John Peterson grabbed a career-high 11 rebounds and notched his first ever double-double as Hartford handed Maryland-Baltimore County its sixth straight loss 68-56 Thursday night.
The Hawks (16-12, 9-6 American East Conference) have won two straight and five of their last seven. Peterson scored 16 points and Mark Nwakamma, America East's leading scorer in conference play averaging 17.6 points, had 11.
Hartford rebounded after shooting just 28.8 percent in a 49-44 win over New Hampshire by hitting 40.4 percent (19 of 47) Thursday, including 7 of 21 from 3-point range. The Hawks won the rebound battle 37-30 and overcame a 14-9 disadvantage on turnovers committed.
Ryan Cook paced the Retrievers (6-22, 4-11) with 16 points and eight rebounds, and Chase Plummer added 15 points and seven boards. UMBC hit just 3 of 18 from 3-point range and had only four assists, three by Aaron Morgan off the bench.
