ROCK HILL, S.C. -- Joab Jerome scored 16 points and Larry Brown added a double-double, 10 points and 10 rebounds to help Winthrop pull away from Liberty 66-56 Saturday night in Big South Conference play.
Derrick Henry scored 15 points to help Winthrop (10-11, 4-5) win its fourth-straight game at home.
On top 52-49 with 6:50 to play, Winthrop extended its lead behind a 14-2 run capped by Andre Smith's 3-pointer to make it 64-51 with 2:03 remaining.
Liberty (7-16, 3-6) made just one field goal the rest of the way as Winthrop cruised to the victory.
James scored 14 points in the second half, and Winthrop led by as many as 13 points.
Winthrop shot 60 percent (15 of 25) in the second half while holding Liberty to just 36.7 percent (11 of 30).
Tavares Speaks finished with 15 points for the Flames.
