BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. -- Tashan Newsome scored 26 points on 9-of-13 shooting from the field to lead Gardner-Webb to a 76-65 victory over Longwood in a Big South Conference game Saturday night.
Jarvis Davis and Jerome Hill had 13 points apiece, and Kevin Hartley contributed 10 for the Runnin' Bulldogs (13-10, 5-4), who have won three straight.
Michael Kessens scored 21 points, Jeylani Dublin added 14 and Tristan Carey 13 for the Lancers (3-20, 0-9), who have lost 13 in a row in their first year in the Big South. Longwood leads the series 5-4, but the teams haven't played since 2008.
Longwood led 43-42 3:01 into the second half, but Gardner-Webb's 20-3 run made it 62-46 to put the game away.
Gardner-Webb shot 54.7 percent from the field (29 of 53) and 77.8 percent from the line (14 of 18), including 7 of 9 by Newsome. Longwood lost the rebounding battle 34-21.
