DEKALB, Ill. -- David Brown scored 13 points and Western Michigan held Northern Illinois to its lowest point total in 67 years, defeating the Broncos 71-34 Saturday night.
Northern Illinois (3-13, 1/3 Mid-American) shot just 20 percent from the floor -- 13 percent in the second half -- en route to its lowest point total since losing 61-31 to Southern Illinois in 1946. The Huskies were 4 of 22 on 3-point attempts and 8 of 16 from the free-throw line.
The Broncos (10-7, 2-2), on the other hand, shot 54 percent from the floor and outrebounded the Huskies 42-27. That helped them overcome 19 turnovers.
Shayne Whittington added nine points and 10 rebounds for Western Michigan.
