CLEMSON, S.C. -- Freshman Jordan Roper ignited a second-half surge on Saturday night as Clemson returned from final exams with an 80-57 win over Florida A&M.
Roper scored 13 of his 16 points in the second half. He hit 6 of 8 from the field, including 4 of 5 from 3-point range.
Clemson (6-3), which scored the first nine points of the second half and led by as many as 31, hit 13 of its first 18 field goals after the break.
A week removed from a 66-54 loss to No. 8 Arizona, Clemson shot 52.6 percent from the field (30 for 57), including 65.2 percent (15 of 23) in the second half after an irregular first half in which the Tigers shot 44.1 percent (15 of 34).
Adonis Filer contributed 14 points off the bench. Devin Booker had 12 points and K.J. McDaniels 11 for Clemson. Milton Jennings contributed 11 rebounds and Rod Hall had 10 assists for the Tigers.
Junior guard Reggie Lewis scored 26 points, including 6 of 8 from 3-point range, for the Rattlers (4-7), who saw their three-game winning streak end. Muhammad Abdul-Aleem added 12 points, but no other Florida A&M starter scored.
Lewis' teammates were 0 for 14 from 3-point range and the Rattlers combined to shoot 31.8 percent overall (21 for 66). Clemson also commanded the boards 49-32.
The Tigers now have a 27-1 record against teams from the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference. It was Clemson's first game against Florida A&M in 26 seasons.
